Magdalena got to dive into another cupcake the next day, at a little birthday celebration for her at her playgroup.

Magdalena's First Birthday
On September 1st, Magdalena turned 1 year old. We had a fun celebration with our friends Claudia and Benicio, with pumpkin and angel food cupcakes and ice cream. Magdalena was in good spirits the whole day (despite having gotten shots at the doctor's!) and was very into her cupcakes and the bows on the presents.
Magdalena's Firsts
Magdalena got her first tooth at 10 months. She signed her first sign "mas/more" around 10 and 1/2 months, although sometimes she uses that sign to mean that she wants to eat. Around the same time she started standing. Not long after, she started saying "hola" everytime someone walked in the room. At 11 1/2 months, she took her first steps. Magdalena, or "Nena" as her brother calls her, still loves to put everything in her mouth, especially plastic and paper, and likes to play with her brother's cars. She takes short naps and wakes up happy. She cheers her brother up when he wakes up groggy from long naps. She is becoming more interested in books, usually looking at them upside down. Here are a few shots of our cutie, including her first carousel ride.

Out and About in New Orleans
One of our favorite outings is to go to City Park to feed the ducks, play on the playground and climb on the trees. We also like to go to the beach at Lake Pontchartrain with friends Will, Matthew and Madison.
An Early Birthday Present for Magdalena
Magdalena and Tavo were both excited when a huge box arrived in the mail for Magdalena from Grandma and Grandpa McDonald. They love playing with cardboard boxes and this one even had something super cool inside...a wagon! THANK YOU!
My First Pony Ride
Tavo is fascinated by horses and we were excited to discover that a stable in New Orleans gives pony rides for $5. He was very calm and serious throughout the ride, but definitely enjoyed riding Ginger. We let Magdalena sit on Ginger but she wasn't too pleased!
Texas/Mexico Trip: Nuevo Laredo
Next we spent a few days in Nuevo Laredo, Texas with Ninito and Magdalena's great grandmother Chacha and Tia Rosie, where we enjoyed delicious Mexican food, shopping for our favorite Mexican products and just being with family.
