Just before we left Dauphin Island, Ninito hit his head on the metal bed frame and got a pretty deep cut. We took him to the closest emergency room (40 minutes away!), and he got 7 stitches. He didn't cry much at all until the doctor stitched him up, and then a red popsicle cheered him up quickly. Here he is on the ride home, eating a burger and holding one of his favorite books.

Dauphin Island
We took a short beach vacation to Dauphin Island, Alabama before Nino had to start classes. The first time we went to the beach in this trip, Tavo was so excited to see all the sand. It took us forever to reach the water, as he wanted to stop and play in the sand all along the way. He swam some in the ocean, but mostly played in the sand. Magdalena also played more in the sand than the water. She surprised us by not trying to eat the sand.

Ninito's 2nd Birthday!
Our little boy is now 2 years old. We had a nice birthday party with friends and family. Tavo is fascinated with horses, so his cake had horses on it and his pinata was a donkey. He loved opening his presents (now, weeks later, he is still asking for "regalos") and received lots of train presents, including a Thomas the Train set from Grandma and Grandpa McDonald.

Royal Street
On weekends, Royal Street in the French Quarter is closed off to traffic and musicians and street performers are at every corner. On a Jazz Fest weekend, there are even more than usual, and you really get to hear some talent. Plus, the quarter has its characters, which make it even more livelier. (For example, there's a guy called "Big Dog" rides his bike up and down the street, barking like a big dog). Here's some shots of Tavo & Magdalena on Royal. Tavo loves horses...in fact, his first 3-syllable word is "caballo."
