Out and About

Tavo loves sitting forward in his car seat, now that he is one year old and 20 lbs. (By the way, he weighed in at 20.1 lbs. at his 12 month doctor visit and is 75th percentile for height).

We went to the New Orlean's Greek Festival yesterday, and Tavo had fun in the moon walk. You can see Nino and our friend Caroline in the background.

Tavo & Friends

Tavo is glad that his grandfather made the sandbox big enough to fit his friends. Sadly, our neighbors moved last week (including Kamal, Anjali and Tulasi pictured here). Antrell is still in the neighborhood, and Benecio is also around. But they're in school during the day and we have to go out to find other kiddos to play with (instead of just stepping out of our house!)

In the other shot, you see that Tavo has taken over Ravi and Kamal's job of keeping up the yard and garden.

Happy Birthday Nino Octavio!

Tavo turned 1 on May 10th and celebrated his birthday with friends, family and his grandparents McDonald. His older friends did the favor of breaking the pinata for him. Despite his fascination with sticks, he wasn't so sure about hitting the pinata.

His grandfather made him a sandbox...and Tavo is making good use of it. Everytime he goes outside, he heads for the sandbox. His parents like it too, it gives them a chance to sit down instead of chasing him around. He walks so fast now that he is almost running.

Jazz Fest 2008

We weren't planning on going to Jazz Fest this year, but when our friend Caroline called and offered us free tickets, there was no way to pass it up. It was a gorgeous day, and we had a great time. Tavo slept through Kermit Ruffins, but woke up in time to hear Randy Newman and eat some delicious gumbo. He entertained himself and the others around us with his penguin-like walk and cute stares (especially at a man with a hat of feathers, and a woman with plastic sea animals swimming in her blue hair). Jazz Fest is laidback, good time for all, even little ones.

Zoo Adventures

On Wednesday, we went to the zoo with our neighbors. Anjali loves the petting zoo, so Tavo visited the goats for the first time. He petted one right away with no hesistation, but the goat moved and he decided it was a little scary. Then, we went to see the seals during their feeding time. The seals have recently returned to New Orleans, after a two year "vacation" in Galveston after Katrina. Tavo was more fasincated by the glass and the seals.
