Sunday at the Race Track

Yesterday we went with our neighbors to the Fairgrounds to see the horse races. It is less than a five minute drive from our house, but we've never been there. Tavo enjoyed watching the horses. When he gets a little older, he can have a pony ride. Meanwhile, we can hardly believe he's already 9 and 1/2 months. He is getting better at standing up by himself, for 10 to 15 second intervals. But he's fast at crawling and content with that means of getting around, so walking might be awhile off still.

Our musician

One of the toys thrown at Mardi Gras are plastic kazoos. Tavo has mastered the kazoo. Enjoy his little concert on this video.

Toothy Grin

This is the first photo where you can really see Tavo's two teeth. We took him to the lake the other day, and he had a blast playing in the sand (and eating it).

More Mardi Gras Celebrations!

Here is a photo from each day that we went out during Mardi Gras weekend. The first is three kids in costume on Sunday, for the Toth parade uptown. Anjali is a fairy, Benecio is Zorro and Tavo is a muskateer (costume made by Benecio's mother). Tavo prefers being a proud bald guy rather than wearing a hat. There was no chance of keeping that hat on his head.

On Monday, we walked to the river for Lundi Gras celebrations. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed sitting on the grass listening to Rebirth Brass Band and eating sweet potato pie. Tavo as usual was fascinated with the music and all the kids running around.

Tuesday we went to the Zulu parade, about a ten minute walk from our house. Traffic is a nightmare during Mardi Gras, so it is so nice not to have to drive anywhere. The photo is of Tavo at the end of the parade...he fell fast asleep shortly after it was taken. The whole bottom of the stroller was full of stuffed animals. But the loot wasn't his favorite thing about the parades. He really loved the marching bands....he would wave his hand up and down to the beat, and also clap and clap.
